RE: Alltel/Verizon merger

Don't know about the others but I have T-Mobile and it sucks! Never had so many dropped calls with Verizon, Spring or Nextel combined as I have with T-Mobile. Five drops in less than 1 minute while I type this. Talked to one of their tech yesterday and complained. Told them that if this kind of service presists, I'll cancel them and get another provider. Was told that even though my contract is up in November, I will be charged $200 early termination fee, even if I drop it one day in advance of the end of the contract. Cell phone companies do not care about their customers as there is as W. C. Fields always said, "There is a sucker born every minute".

RE: Ants? bug bombs don't affect them, suggestions?

Have tried Terro yesterday for the sweet eating ants both inside and outside of my 5ver. They took to it like a baby to a nipple. Only problem is that after it rained last night, they are back. As a pet owner I have to be cautious of what I use and where I place it. Just spayed dialuted 70/30 water/Clorox outside, so I will have to wait until the morning to see how, if it works. My 5ver is on a concrete pad with expantion joints. The ants move from one joint to the next. Might possibly have to soak the heck out of the joints to see if that works. Has anyone tried Listerine? Have been told that that also works.

RE: Holding Tank Primer for Dummies

Don't remember which posting I read but some RV'ers say to leave the Gray water tanks valve open. WRONG! Might just be the RV park I'm in but I did that for two days recently and that was a BIG mistake. Last night I put some Calgon in all the drains and left overnight. Well this morning I went to get some water for coffee and found a visitor in a glass half filled with water. A NICE BIG Dead WaterBug. Even though it was dead, I might now have to worry about visitors on the floor when getting out of bed in the middle of the night Without, having to turn on a light. Feel that the open drains allowed the bug access to the tanks. I've used clorox before but never found any visitors so I think it was the Calgon that did it in. Looks like I'll have to load up with Calgon when I go to the local WM and Meijer's today and dump a full cup down each drain and a full bottle in the black water tank followed by a few gallons of clean water before heading back to Florida tomorrow. For you Canadians, try looking for the Calgon on the top shelf in the water softener section in your local WM. Since it is not a major brand, they only have a small spot for it. I spent close to 10 minutes at my local yesterday looking before I found two bottles on the very top shelf near the back.

RE: Your Rig

One more question, if you have a big semi like that do you have to get a CDL or anything? What semi??? The red vehicle in front of my 5er is a MH. As such, it does not require a CDL for itself in its state of registry. It only requires the operator license that any TV would need to pull the weight it is towing. Also, if the operator's license class is appropriate in the vehicle's registered state, it's appropriate everywhere else in the country. Garth I looked at an 03 F-550 in Indiana the other day and was told buy the sales manager that they could not sell unless I had a CDL even though it would be to tow my 5ver.

RE: To all 5ver drivers, a ? 4 U.

Have an 06 Chevy 2500HD Vortec 8.1 gasser and SRW, just broke 11,000 miles on odometer after 1 1/2 years. Made my first tow of my 93 Nomad 30 ft from north central Florida to the Cincinnati, OH area a few weeks ago. Got between 7 and 9.5 MPG, depending on with or without Ethanol in the gas. Truck towed with no trouble on the hills in TN and KY, but had thought of looking for something more powerful and more room. Checked a Chevy/Ford dealer in Indiana that had an 03 Ford FL-550 in the lot. Dealer asking $54K with 23,000 miles. Salesman was ready to get an estimate on my truck when the sales manager asked if I had a CDL. Said there is no financing unless potential owner has a CDL. How is the FL-550 on fuel and size of tank and why would a CDL be needed? Just me and my old 4 legged dog.

RE: Grey water disposal revisited

They even put it in water to feed edible fish: Just ruined some friends meal of Talipia by sending them this. One of them said that when a blowhard friend of one family member comes over for their 4th of July picnic, they will make it a point of serving him his favorite food, Talipia, then show him the article. They are hoping that the freeloader and his freeloading grown children will leave early so the rest can enjoy the holiday.

RE: internet service

I've been using Meliencom Broadband Wireless for the past 6 months and have no problems with service except in the RV park in FL where everyone gets p poor connections with all different services. Price just went up to $60 a month unlimited usage. Now I just have to find a phone service that has good coverage. T-Mobile sucks on coverage in NJ, IN and Florida

RE: Inverter

I bought a 400W XPower digital power inverter from Camperworld that can either be hard wired or plugged into a cigarette lighter and can accommodate 2 plugs for about $70. Used it a few weeks ago on a trip from FL to Indiana then to NJ and back to Indiana to power my laptop and charge my cell phone. Works great as far as I can tell. Had tried one of the models that sit in a cup holder but it did not work.

RE: Anyone else have the black water tank fill first?

NewRVer- Just yourself? No fun showering by yourself;) 1/2 quart per P? Oh Oh, something wrong here.:( I out do a race horse every time. Do you wash the dishes in the sink or wash tub? What about greasy water? Wouldn't the grease or soap for that matter block the pipes over time? This is getting to be a pretty ****ty post.

RE: Grey water disposal revisited

I'm new to RVing and have a few questions on Grey and Black water. I've read that you should treat your holding tanks weekly with toilet and water treatment chemicals and not empty them until they are full or you are ready to hit the road. Wouldn't the chemicals harm the enviroment if the grey water drained on the ground? Also, what do you do with greasy cooking water? Dump down the drain? If so, wouldn't the grease build up in the pipes and on the walls of the holding tanks??

RE: Chassis battery brand and cost?

Have a 93 Nomad Fifth Wheeler. When I attempt to bring in the slide, I hear a buzzing noise and the slide moves in slowly when hooked to outside electric but work good when hooked to TV. What would be the best batteries for an older RV that might be replaced in a year or so?

RE: Computer tracking question

They're everywhere, they're everywhere. Big brother also can read your e-mail, track your movements through your cell phone even if you are outside of the US and even watch you from space with enough magnification to be able to read a license plate number. And don't forget that they can also tell how much money you have on your person as long as you have the new bills.

Do you think I could run my TV if I was wearing one of the hats while standing outside in a Lightening storm holding the plug between my teeth?

RE: Organized Storage?

I store my fishing poles upright in a washer/dryer closet and hold them in place with a small bungee cord and two cup hooks. I like my poles being inside, and access is quite easy. One Plano tube (smaller poles) upright in bathroom between sink and toilet, one in corner between slide and pantry, several smaller poles on top of window shade box but the other poles and one of the tubes presents problems due to their lengths (9 to 13 foot). I might put a hinge on the first step to bath for storage of smaller reels. One of these days I might give up fishing. Still have to figure where to put my RC stuff besides on the table with my printers and laptop.

RE: Convection Toaster Overs

TRY your BBQ works great, love my toast. BBQ better for making homemade Pizza or use a gas grill for Pancakes outside. Use a GE toaster oven for anything that does not need cooking in a pan or too small for grills. Late ex-wife made sure I had lots of everything when I bought my 5ver last year.

RE: Leveling the front jacks (or should you)

How much weight should be put on the front stabilizer tripod and rear stabilizers? Have the plastic blocks for the front legs but they seem to give too much and on the rear they seem to allow rocking no matter how tight they seem.
